The Association aims to represent all palliative care social workers in the UK, wherever they are and whatever their setting.

We have an elected national committee that provide leadership and direct the work of the Association. They are supported by the regional group representative and are accountable to the membership. All officers of the Association volunteer their time in addition to their work responsibilities.
The Committee
I have worked in various roles in palliative care and bereavement for around 30 years; both in and outside of hospices in England and in Wales.
Qualified in social work, counselling and supervision, my areas of interest are making sure social work students are able to experience palliative care social work as part of their placement opportunities, ensuring children have good access to support and making sure that quality supervision is accessible for everyone working in this area.

Since January 2020 I have worked at St. Michael’s Hospice in Hereford as the Supportive Care Team Co-ordinator, assisting Social Workers, Counselling, Spiritual Care, Complementary Therapists and Mindfulness teams. It is a role that is diverse and rewarding.
I have a background in secretarial / administration roles within the private business sector, education and Local Authority. I joined APCSW at the beginning of 2023 and am enjoying getting to know you all!
I am a dedicated Palliative Care Social Worker at LOROS Hospice. With a rich background in mental health, Sheila previously served as an Approved Mental Health Professional for the Local Authority and worked with the Office of Public Guardian.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, she has discovered a passion for crochet. In 2024, Sheila participated in Strictly LOROS, an experience she thoroughly enjoyed.
I qualified as a social worker in July 1996 and I worked for local authorities in the North East until Dec 2017, when I moved to London, where I worked at Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice as Team Lead for Psychological & Social Care.
I moved back to the North East in March 2023, to take up my current post of Allied Health Professional Lead at Marie Curie Hospice Newcastle.
I have been Hospice / Palliative Care Welfare Adviser for 17 years and worked in the welfare benefits sector since the
mid 90’s.
For the last 10 years I have been the Welfare Adviser at Heart of Kent Hospice, working closely with our Social Worker to support patients, their families and carers; and those that are bereaved, with the financial insecurities a terminal diagnosis and/or death of a loved one can bring.
No two families are the same, and the constant changes to welfare reforms certainly keep me on my toes!
I am patient and Family Support team Lead at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Children’s Hospice in Carlisle. I trained as a learning disability nurse and then as a social worker. I have always had an interest in health social work and have been a palliative care social worker for almost 15 years now.
One of my passions is Education and I have attended many Hospice UK conferences with posters as well as presenting in person at a BASW conference.
I am an experienced palliative care social worker and therapist , having worked in several hospices. I represented social work as a director of the EAPC for 8 years and joint chaired the social work task force for the EAPC.
Lecturing internationally has provided opportunities to meet social workers from Eastern Europe, and I have maintained connections with many international social workers. In 2014, I completed a three-year appointment with the EU to develop palliative care social work in the Republic of Serbia. Before palliative care, I worked in CAMHs and lectured social work at a university.
I currently lecture, write and supervise in palliative care and spend my free time with friends, family and I enjoy choral singing.
Group Reps
I qualified as a social worker in Hong Kong since 2004, and worked as a manager mobilitizing community palliative care service development in Hong Kong for over 10 years.
I moved to UK in 2020, completed my palliative care studies in Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College London, and currently working as a hospital palliative care social worker.
I am also a Fellow in Thanatology (FT®), awarded by the Association for Death Education and Counselling.
I qualified in 2009 and worked in the area of mental health before moving to a palliative care social worker role at LOROS Hospice in 2022.
I completed the European Certificate of Essential Palliative Care in 2023 and am enjoying my current post at LOROS as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and social work team manager.
I have dedicated 14 years to hospice care, serving as a Specialist Palliative Care Social Worker and, more recently, as the Wellbeing Lead. In my current role, I manage a team of wellbeing facilitators and volunteers who deliver both onsite and community-based support for individuals at various stages of their palliative journey. Our team specialises in offering a safe and supportive environment where people can explore their experiences with palliative care, caregiving, and bereavement, while accessing peer support, activities, and educational resources. We collaborate closely with colleagues within our hospice, other hospices, and the wider community. I am committed to empowering individuals to live well throughout their journey.
For 12 years, I have been an active member of APCSW, and I have served as a regional representative for the past 4 years. My professional interests include education, artificial intelligence, wellbeing, wellness, and all aspects of palliative and social work
I qualified as a social worker in 2007 and joined St Gemma’s Hospice in 2017. I enjoy the variety, working across the In-Patient Unit and Community. I’m grateful to work in an environment that allows more time to listen to and meet needs of those I’m supporting. I’ve learnt a great deal from patients, family members and MDT colleagues.
I have co-written our bereavement guide – What to do when someone dies – developed and deliver in-house Safeguarding Training and am a Clinical Supervision Champion.
